Throughout history there have been many revolutions where monarchs were removed from their thrones or countries have rebelled against the authority of the monarchs. was portrayed as a tyrant and a puppet of the French Catholic Church. This propaganda asserted that William only wanted to restore the Parliament and England's religious freedom. William and his followers aimed their propaganda at a broad section of English society, literate and non-literate Englishmen alike. The fact that William and his Army came to England and that he obtained the crown with little bloodshed is a testament to the effect of this propaganda.
