…Republic - the political problems, economic problems, and the burden of Versailles - but they weren't enough to topple the government. They would serve better in later years when it hit yet another crisis as evidence of Weimar's incompetence but at this point in time conditions weren't dire enough for the majority to vote for the extremes. In other words Weimar didn't survive 1918-1923 because it was strong, but rather the threats were too weak.
