…to many Germans, it should be remembered that Germany might easily have feared much worse. If Britain and America didn't restrain France, and if it had depended entirely on Clemenceau, the treaty would have been much harsher for Germany. Summing up, I definitely think that the treaty wasn't at all fair, and that Germany should have paid some reparations and lost some territory - but maybe one or the other... or both to lesser degrees.
