During the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, Trotsky significantly contributed to the successes of the Bolshevik Party in overthrowing the Provisional Government and paving the way for a Communist nation. In May of 1917, Trotsky returned from exile and joined the popular Bolshevik Party, playing a significant role in promoting the Party. Trotsky from succeeding Lenin. In 1925, he was dismissed at Commissar of War and between 1926 and 1927 was dismissed form the Politburo and expelled form the Party.
In his years following his exile from the Soviet Union he spent time in Kazakhstan, France, Turkey and finally residing in Mexico. During this time he had created an illegal Trotskyite printing press which distributed anti-Stalin propaganda. Trotsky was assassinated in 1940, the attack was suspected to be on Stalin's order.
