Mine-owners had been employing blacks in the place of whites because they were a cheaper labour force. The strikers had succeeded in regaining their jobs, high wages and job securities. Therefore it can be concluded that the strike, although unsuccessful in the short-term, had in fact achieved its objective eventually.
