Established in 1913 as per the Federal Reserve Act, The Federal Reserve System (Fed) was first designed to stabilize and regulate monetary and fiscal systems. As the national bank of the United States, the Fed is an independent component of the government. Although it regularly communicates and is advised by many parts of the economic system, the Fed operates and makes world-affecting decisions without the consent, oversight, or regulation by any other part of the government.
