In "The Yellow Wallpaper", by Charlotte Perkins Gilman,
the dominant/submissive relationship between an
oppressive husband and his submissive wife pushes her
from depression into insanity.

he was wrong, and, since she knew he couldn't tolerate
hysteria, to drive him away.
