There was a separate room for baptism, a private mausolea, and a martyna where they could preserve the memory of saints and martyrs. They used geometrical forms to produce designs with visual impact. Churches contained the highest quality of art there was to be seen. Religion, politics and power shaped the architecture of the times, then as it does now.
