"The Hunter's: Scarce Resources in the Kalahari" by Richard Borshay Lee
In this article Lee questions two major assumptions about the !Kung
bushmen. The first is that the !Kung bushmen are dependent on the
hunting of game animals. The second is that the hunter gatherer way of
life is precarious, unpredictable and generally a struggle. To refute
the first assumption, Lee figured out, through research, that vegetables
make up 60 to 80 per cent of the Bushmens'

Finally, Lee examines the caloric intake of the Bushmen which closely
resembles the required amount (RDA).
Lee concludes that the !Kung bushmen of the Kalahari do not necessarily
have "short, brutish, and short" lives and they don't depend entirely
meat for food.
