In the 1930's the entire world economy was in a slump. It was one of the worst depressions the world had known. America, a world leader, was suffering right along with everywhere else. The depression had devastating effects on the country. The origins of the depression were the stock market speculation, mistakenly raised interest rates, tariff increase, and economic inequality. With the New Deal, the American economy recovered gradually. The New Deal not only created jobs, subsidized agriculture, and supported industries but also built infrastructures that Americans are currently using. Government's intervention was increased during the depression and that defined the role of government in today's society.
