After reading the interesting novel The Apprenticeship of Lucas Whittaker by Cynthia DeFelice, I have discovered three good traits Lucas has that make the story worthwhile to read. Lucas, the main character, is brave, hardworking, and helpful.

of the epidemic. So Lucas helped the whole town, giving them all a cure! And some of them got better. The whole journey to and from the herbalist's house took him a week, and it was all just to help his town.
