In the Four Corners region, none of these variables can be predicted, and few can be circumvented. The Anasazi struggled against the inhospitable landscape and limited food resources of this area for two thousand years. Culture and tradition were shaped by this struggle, to an extent few contemporary North Americans can relate to or even imagine.
