St. Monica's own parish cemetery can be found about a block south on 160th Street on the other side of Liberty Avenue. Considering the condition of the church, it is surprising to find it well kept. It was on this site that the original St. Monica's was built in 1840 to serve Jamaica's growing Irish population. …the building was part of the campus' master plan. Some plans about the use of the building had been discussed but no decisions had been made about its future. It's essential that the building be stabilized. Hopefully York College will be granted funds to complete this task.
