…help the reader gain a better understanding of slavery and everyday life. It is difficult to imagine living in a place where you are treated like an animal. I find it very interesting that nowhere in narratives are feelings expressed, only events. I can imagine all I want what slavery was like but I will never know what it felt like to be a slave, and Catherine and James do not tell me.
