Morality and Frankenstein Mary Shelley was born on August 30, 1797, in London to two radicals of the day. Her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, who died in childbirth, was one of the first feminists and writers of the time while her father, William Godwin, played his part as a radical thinker as a writer and political journalist. What is interesting is the comparison between Frankenstein's desire to help the world through his scientific experiments, and the experiments in cloning and stem cell research in the current day.
