Kublai Khan was born in 1216; he was the grandson of the great conqueror Genghis Khan. Kublai founded the Mongol or Yuan Dynasty that ruled China from 1279 to 1368. Although he was a magnificent ruler, Kublai's administration slowly impoverished China. In the fourteenth century the attitude of his successors resulted in rebellious citizens that eventually destroyed the Mongol dynasty. Kublai Khan had greatly impacted China but also caused them much devastation until a new empire evolved.
