criminals. When Johnson was released from prison he was meet by a whole marching band and a horde of friends. 1921 ended Johnson's exile and his debt to society was paid. Johnson and his third wife divorced in 1924, Johnson returned to boxing. After being free from prison Johnson survived five car accidents. On June 10, 1946 Johnson was driving on highway one near Raleigh, North Carolina when he crashed into a light pole. Johnson died three hours later.
