The Indus Valley civilization flourished around 2,500 BC and declined in about 1750 BC It was located in the western part of South Asia, in what today is Pakistan and western India. It is often referred to as Harappan Civilization after its first discovered city, Harappa.

Although no one knows why the Indus Valley civilization collapsed, many theories have been incorporated, such as a season with massive floods that engulfed the city, or a change in soil making it impossible to farm. For whatever the reason the city-states of Harappa and Mohenjo-daro were the building blocks for many civilizations to come and have created ideas and principals we still use today.
