Chinese culture was also being destroyed by European influence. Confucian scholars therefore wanted an end to European influence. Europe however was just developing into a civilized culture and needed change to advance. This curiosity and need for change led Europe to take advantage of Chinese technology and become the most powerful nation on the planet.
