The Spanish Civil War was fought in 1936. It was a war that divided the country and unified its citizens to fight for their ideals and beliefs. There were two sides in the war, the Republicans and the Nationalists. …not. This was not a Civil War that ended in reconciliation, contraire; the victory of Franco started a reign of terror towards his enemies and citizens of Spain. Like in World War II, concentration camps were set up and tens of thousands were shot. Huge executions continued until 1944. Meanwhile, World War II was under way and many of the volunteers that fought in Spain took up arms against fascism and went on to fight again.
