The importance of the electoral college in presidential elections is obvious. The electoral college is how the president gets elected. Each state is allowed two senators a.k.a. (electors). The population in every state determines the number of representatives that state will be given. The more people to represent the more representatives that state will have. Each state is divided into districts, one representative will represent one district.

for the Presidential election. Whichever party wins in the most popular votes in that state, wins all the electorals of that state. Then on Monday following the second Wednesday of December the states electors meet in their State Capitals to cast their electoral votes for President and Vice President. Finally on January 6th the President of the Senate reads the results to both houses and says who is going to be President and Vice President.
