Chem Lab
Purpose: To find out if the weight of different objects effects the acceleration when falling.
Materials and Procedure: See sheet
Data:
Data Table 1
Trial Time (s) # of dots Frequency (1/s) Period (s)
1 1.71 87 50.877 .019
2 1.74 90 51.724 .019
3 1.67 80 47.9 .021
4 1.32 82 62.12 .016
Average 1.61 84.75 53.15 .018
Data Table 2
Trial Mass (g) Time (s) Distance (m) Avg speed (m/s)
1 1000 ,594 .89 1.5
2 200 .432 .89 2.06
3 100 .468 .89 1.9
4 500 .45 .89 1.97
Calculations:
Frequency = Number of dots / Time
Period = Time / Number of dots
Average speed = meters / seconds
Questions:
1. What is the possible source of error in the measurement of the period

the lab we took 4 different weights to see if any would fall faster and just counted up the amount of dots and multiplied by .018 to see the time it took to fall. All of our weights when rounded to one significant digit took 2 seconds to fall meaning there is only a slight difference between them, which is caused by human error because they should have all taken the same exact time to hit the ground.
