Both during and after the actual revolution in Cuba, Che Guevara played roles of major importance to the revolution itself. One's importance to anything is always relative and difficult to quantify. Compared to Fidel Castro, Guevara was only in a supporting role while Castro had the limelight, but he was not forgotten. …Cuba would not have aligned itself with them as it was during the Cold War. Guevara may have had influences in the direction of Cuba but he alone could not change anything. Guevara held important roles in government during the Cuban Revolution and influenced much of what happened in Cuba at the time, however, his influence was limited and there were other factors that were more important, which made his importance to the revolution relative.
