French form of civil law. The Thirteen Colonies considered this law one of the Intolerable Acts. because the American colonists wanted more assemblies and democracy. They also wanted to expand into the Ohio Valley, but Britain ruled out all of these things. All of the colonies sent delegates to Philadelphia, where the First Continental Congress was being held. In this Congress the delegates took the first steps towards independence, which helped bring on the Revolution.
