CF 100 "Canuck"
The RCAF named the CF-100 "Canuck", after the much earlier name Curtis JN-4 Canuck trainer of the First World War. The name was never really accepted for the jet aircraft and the crews more often referred to the type as the 'Clunk' or the 'Lead Sled'. In 1981, the aircraft was restored and placed on display as a "Gate Guardian" at the entrance to C.F.B. Suffield by the Experimental Model Shop, the Defense Research Establishment, and members of the Base. After being declared surplus to the needs of the Department of National Defense, it was acquired by the Nanton Lancaster Society in August 1994
