British taxes in the Americas began in 1651 starting with the Navigation Acts.
Most of the taxation started because of the war debts of England and the colonists revolts

British officers to board soldiers
in vacant private houses and other buildings. In addition, General Thomas Gage,
commander in chief of British forces in North America, was appointed the new governor
of Massachusetts. General Gage placed Boston under military force and kept the colonists
from rebelling. By doing this King George hoped to set an example out of Massachusetts
of what he will do if they did not follow his laws and pay his taxes.
