The Articles of Confederation were the first constitution of the United States. The Articles were in force from March 1, 1781, to June 21, 1788 until the current constitution was adopted. During the months that followed, the convention wrote the Constitution of the United States that shared some ideals with the pervious government but gave a lot more power to the federal government.
