The responsibility of a "second unpaid shift" has led many women to work part-time in an attempt to balance family-work conflicts. Women's choosing to work part-time increases or maintains occupational segregation and low pay (Kendall, 357). The weight of the "second shift" and society's expectations will preserve women's inequality and discrimination in the workforce for another generation. For now, Canada's gender-segregated workforce, the wage differential and the way women are treated in the workforce will continue.
