Mystery surrounds the cause of the disease, therefore making it nearly impossible to prevent it. Avian Vacuolar Myelinopathy may keep showing up in more species every year, it is unknown if it can only affect waterfowl. The disease may also disappear as quickly as it started, leaving scientists guessing as to its cause and cure.
