William Lloyd Garrison
William Lloyd Garrison was one of foremost abolitionists in the United States. Garrison used a nonviolent, journalistic approach to speak out against the evils of slavery. Garrison is most famous for his anti-slavery journal The Liberator. He made his views very clear in the first issue of he journal:

Garrison’s last fourteen years on earth were spent in retirement during which he gave up his radical tactics. William Lloyd Garrison died on May 24, 1879 in New York, New York. Although William Garrison departed more than 100 years ago, his work will always live on through our history.
