“The story is based entirely on the existence of the family of Ngotho in which their views and ideas are clearly expressed. The roles in which men and women accept are very evident throughout the entire book. Also feelings towards the different cultures which resulted in certain stereotypes helped in portraying the entire atmosphere in which each culture saw the world through their eyes

role during this time period was evident. There were many times where I am sure Othogo’s wives would have liked to speak towards their husband and sons. But this was a time where the husband was the man of the house feared by the others. Also the wives many times were left behind in their huts to spend most of their time worrying if their husband and sons would return safely home.
