Walt Whitman and Humanity Walt Whitman was a transcendentalist poet, who was the first American to use free write. He puts to use imagery and creates numerous ideas and thoughts. Some people are only concerned with themselves, but then there are those who care about everybody and everything. Falling in this latter category is the poet Walt Whitman. Though his poems he show that he is not merely concerned with himself but with all of humanity.
