If you are in the mood to be cheered up, “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” is not an appropriate choice of film. It requires a lot more from its viewer that most other films, as it is only fully understood when looked at deeply and intensely. However, the film comes highly recommended, as it is thoroughly enjoyable and wonderful for the maturing teenage mind.
