Mary Wollstonecraft has been called a forward-looking feminist. She was a woman that was decades ahead of her time. Her writing, A Vindication of Rights of Men (1790) is one of the most important documents in the history of women's rights. Wollstonecraft's views were primarily concerned with the individual woman and about rights. Wollstonecraft was a participant in and observer of a remarkable series of social revolutions. Women are now capable of doing anything they choose. Currently, large numbers of women have entered the professions, the trades, and businesses of every kind. The United States has opened positions of the clergy, military, and newsroom. More than three million women now work in occupations considered nontraditional until very recently (Beard 212). Mary Wollstonecraft may not have foreseen such drastic changes, but nonetheless these may in fact be accredited to her ideas.
