Therefore, these kids think that the only way to go to college is by being good at a sport. What they do when they get to college is the real question. Some day, this will be noted as an asterisk beside the national championship saying, “graduated all players.” This is a goal many college sports teams strive for.
Many division one universities in the past three decades have focused too much on athletics before academics. Many youth, primarily black, think that college is the minor league level for professional sports. College is a stepping-stone for athletics, but even more importantly a stepping-stone for academics and life.
