At the end of the story Lyman’s brother Henry walks into water to release himself
from the pain and suffering he encountered because of the war. Lyman then pushes the red
convertible into the way to signify that bond that he shared with his brother was through the car.
And if his brother wasn’t there anymore, what good was the car to drive around.
