During the Civil War traditional thoughts were perceived that black soldiers wouldn't fight. The legacy of the Fifty-fourth regiment was referred as a noble experiment. These men of the Fifty-fourth staked their lives to prove that the traditional thought of the southerners were wrong. Had having courage and intelligent combat ready the Fifty-fourth became the war's most famous black regiment because of its heroism in battle.
