Throughout the novel mothers and daughters struggle to bridge the gap in their relationship. As the novel ended the daughters started to hear the words and stories of their mothers. They gained strength from this knowledge about their mothers and realized the richness of their culture. The daughters grew into stronger individuals, becoming the woman their mothers hoped they would be.
