Although considered a insignificant incident, it actually began the paving of the road to freedom. Gradually Edna’s rebellions became larger and larger, until she finally takes her own life. In conclusion, this novel symbolically represented the hardships women faced in society, and opened the door for others to follow in Edna’s footsteps of rebellion.
