Renaissance Humanism
Renaissance humanism is a focus on the features of a classical
civilization, including the intellectual and social movements associated with
ancient Greece and Rome. People began to explore the power of the human
mind. Generally, humanism stresses the individual’s creative, reasoning, and
artistic powers. However, during the Renaissance, individual ideas about
humanism differed. There were many ways to express humanism but one was a
rise in appreciation for items of the past.

unique traits of the human species. Spirituality and free expression are modern
day trademarks of current humanism. The three ancient humanists described
in this paper, Petrarch, Erasmus, and Pico Della Mirandola were early
examples of what became know as Renaissance humanism. Today’s society
has it’s own humanistic spirit. By understanding the past, I believe we are more
prepared for the future. Humanism expressed a similar view.
