Religion affected the Puritans during every day life in many ways. In fact Puritan religion dominated their lives (at its strongest point) in every aspect. This domination includes there clothing, jobs, homes, education, and also their literature.

Basically Edwards’ religion has every influence over his beliefs; therefore have every influence over his writing. The belief that every man is a sinner, and their destiny is predetermined sets Edwards and his readers/listeners up for a gory “truth”.
