One of Poe’s talents in writing is his ability to present his readers with a setting that will provide more substance to the story. His literary works mainly gothic, there is a need for the appearance of castles, dungeons, cellars, a dark spooky night and of course the presence of a creepy place where a character has to die. A story where this type of setting can be found is “The Cask of Amontillado”. …

…Montresor burying Fortunato alive leaves the reader perplexed and shocked. After Montresor buried his “friend” alive and leaves the creepy vaults without turning back at the screams and the sounds of the chains rattling, the story comes to an end. The development of the story and its conclusion would not have been the same if the arrangement of the setting had counted with the talent of Poe at the time of writing the bone-biting tale.
