My Lai is a controversial event in history because there are many different views of what happened. The mission started when captain Ernest Medina instructed Lieutenant William Calley to destroy the village of My Lai. …showed last 75 words of 507 total…have changes my ideas of not only the Vietnam War, but also have made me question the war in Iraq. That the United States government is capable of trying to cover up its mistakes instead of facing them and attempting to rectify them makes me question if they would do the same thing today. Also that more people would not stand up as Thompson did makes me question the army in the past and present.
