Maslow's Hierarchy of Life
Abraham Maslow is considered to be the founder of Humanistic Psychology. Maslow’s “humanistic perspective focuses on the motivation of people to grow psychologically, the influence of interpersonal relationships on a person’s self-concept, and the importance of choice and self-direction in striving to reach one’s potential.”(Hockenbury & Hockenbury, 2001, p. 11). entering into the teenage years, there is a great need for socializing, and acceptance. Young adults are concerned with esteem, for instance obtaining a job, doing well in school, etc. Self-actualization tends to occur in more mature people who have transcended the first four levels.
