The American idea of “Manifest Destiny” played a very important role in our political
dealings with native Americans in general and the Mexican government in particular. The
concept of “Manifest Destiny” was for the United States to control the land from “Sea to
Shining Sea” or the present day boundaries of the United States.
The Americans believed that nothing must stand in the way for them to accomplish this

and dominance of the Caribbean. One of the most important actions the Americans took
toward becoming a strong empire was taking control of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the
Philippines. The reason for Manifest Destiny to be so successful in the U.S. is most likely
because Americans are such greedy people. They will never be satisfied until they are the
strongest nation in the world.
