We have already tried raising the drinking age to 21 and have become stricter with underage drinkers. …As you can see from the reasons stated in this paper, the drinking age is not effective and is actually counterproductive. It forces many youths to make drinking a secret affair, and consequently not learn safe and responsible drinking habits. It is my opinion, as well as the opinion of many other people, that the most effective way to create more responsible alcohol consumption among youths is to lower the legal drinking age to eighteen.
