One of the militaryıs largest undertakings during WWII was the mass evacuation of people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast of the United States. This stretched from Washington to Oregon and down to southern California. have been the same in the light of the present knowledge? Considering the evidence now availablethe reasonable deductions seem to be that Gen. DeWittıs recommendation of February 13, 1942 was not used in drafting the War Department directives for a mass evacuation of the Japanese people, and that the only responsible commander who backed the War Departmentıs plan as a measure required by military necessity was the President himself, as Commander in Chief.
