Although war might affect the individual directly it moreover affects their loved ones just as Sam shows her concern for her uncle Emmett. All in all, Bobbie Ann Mason's In Country is an excellent example of how the Vietnam War spiraled problems with not only the veterans themselves but with their loved ones.
