Well, I have purchased Human Relations Strategies for Success by Lowell Lamberton and Leslie Minor-Evans, Second edition. The chapter that caught my eye was Chapter 18 – Maintaining Workplace Health (starts on page 584) and it deals with substance abuse, marital, family and personal problems of the employee, and also gives you warning signs, when and how to intervene and also offers information about EAP’s, or Employee Assistance Programs. It also allows a manager to ‘work with’ the employee -- if feasible and not dangerous—during any counseling or assistance, rather than immediately requesting the termination of the employee.
