China's population started to grow at a rapid rate in 1949. There were ½ a billion people in China and 2/3 of the population were under 24. This shows the increase of births had risen very quickly. I don't think that what the Chinese authorities did was bad thing at all as it needed to be done, but I do feel sorry for the children that will grow up as single children, and their children growing up with no aunties, uncles or cousins.
